Never underestimate the power of good communication. Sometimes, it is so easy to get caught up in our own issues and surroundings that we overlook the value of learning from others. We work hard at Keep Florida Beautiful to facilitate open communication and sharing with the 42 affiliates that cover the state and we learn from our diversity. Some affiliates are large operations and some are one-person shows. We have a mix of nonprofit organizations (25), city government based affiliates (9), county government based affiliates (5) and three hybrid government/nonprofits. All share a love for making their communities and our state the best place to live in and visit.

Having good communication among the affiliates (and KFB) builds a sense of community and strengthens mutual values. In addition to monthly conference calls, we have been convening regional affiliate meetings around the state to facilitate affiliate sharing and learning. Be sure to check out some of the photos from our last meeting in Orlando. Total fun! Who said meetings have to be boring? We also consider this newsletter a good form of communication and welcome your thoughts and suggestions for  items to include or topics to cover as we move into the busy fall season. Until then, enjoy International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 16 and be sure to share with us how it all turned out!

Sincerely,
Mary Jean Yon, Executive Director
