2017 is off to a fabulous and fast start! As we enter the new year, Keep Florida Beautiful’s focus remains on continuous improvement, increased support of the Florida Affiliates and doing everything in our power to be one of the best state affiliates in the U.S.
Many of us were able to attend the Keep America Beautiful (KAB) National Conference in Washington, D.C. on January 24-26, 2017. Imagine how proud we were when a total of five Florida Affiliates and one special Florida Department of Transportation manager received awards at the KAB Awards Ceremony. Florence Cline, nominated by Keep Alachua County Beautiful, won the coveted Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson Award. For those who don’t know, this award is given to an outstanding female volunteer for exceptional leadership with at least 10 years in helping her local community to become cleaner, greener and more beautiful. The award is named in honor of Lady Bird Johnson whose vision of a litter-free America helped inspire the creation of KAB. Be sure to read more about Florence in this newsletter.
And speaking of outstanding affiliates, this is the year that KFB intends to step up with assisting affiliates in as many ways as we can including training, communication outreach, volunteer support and more. To assist in these activities and planning, the KFB Board of Directors created an Affiliate Advisory Committee at its January 12, 2017 meeting and added two new affiliate representatives to the board. Joining Tony Sasso (Keep Brevard Beautiful) and Debbie Evenson (Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful) are Wendi Crisp (Keep Sarasota County Beautiful) and Jo Ann Palmer (Keep Wakulla County Beautiful) who are also featured below.
All this and we’re only in the first month of the new year! Be sure to share your thoughts, dates for events and bucket lists with us and we’ll see what we can do to make 2017 one of the best years yet!
